The development of Fire Force equipment was born out of necessity following the Great Catastrophe, when humans began spontaneously combusting into Infernals. Traditional firefighting methods proved insufficient against these fire-wielding monsters, necessitating a new breed of firefighter who could fight fire with fire. The Ignition Boots were engineered to harness a user's pyrokinetic abilities, allowing them to convert their flames into propulsion. This technology fundamentally changed urban warfare, turning the verticality of Tokyo's architecture into a tactical advantage. The gear is not merely about offense; it serves as a critical life-support system. The helmets often include filters for toxic smoke and sensors that detect the volatile 'Adolla' frequencies emitted by Infernals. Crucially, the Ignition Boots require the user to possess pyrokinetic abilities to function for propulsion; they cannot be used by those without natural pyrokinetic abilities, nor do they act as stabilizers for non-users. This distinction highlights why figures like Shinra Kusakabe, who began his career as a Third Generation and later rose to become Captain of Company 8, are uniquely suited to wield this technology effectively.
